Sand Canyon Road Viewpoint

Length: 4.6 Miles Difficulty: Moderate

The Sand Canyon Road Viewpoint Trail offers a moderately challenging hike through scenic forest and rugged terrain just outside Big Bear Lake. This out-and-back trail climbs steadily to a stunning high point, offering sweeping views of the surrounding San Bernardino Mountains and forest valleys.

Popular among hikers, horseback riders, and mountain bikers, the route is relatively quiet and less trafficked—ideal for those seeking solitude. The path begins at the end of Sand Canyon Road, climbing southwest before splitting into unmarked segments that lead to the summit viewpoint. While the trail is open and sunny, shade is limited, so hikers should come prepared with sun protection and extra water.

It’s a great pick for intermediate hikers looking for a half-day nature escape with rewarding views at the top. Dogs are welcome on a leash.
