Why This Event Is Special

The Landscape Painting Classes provide a fun and creative opportunity to learn traditional and plein air painting techniques while enjoying the mountain scenery of Big Bear. Each session features instruction, demonstrations and an opportunity to paint. All levels of experience are welcome. Marilyn offers helpful tips through lessons and reference-based demonstrations that help participants build confidence, creativity and a greater appreciation for outdoor art.

What to Expect During the Class

Each session includes painting instruction, technique demonstrations, and helpful tips for creating landscape artwork outdoors. Guests can bring their own supplies and enjoy a relaxing morning surrounded by nature.

Event Highlights:
  • Learn plein air painting techniques
  • Open to oil, acrylic, and watercolor painters
  • Enjoy painting at scenic Miller Park
  • Receive guidance from instructor Marilyn
  • Create artwork inspired by Big Bear landscapes

Supplies & Materials List:

  • Table Easel
  • 8x 10, 9×12, 11×14, or 12×16 stretched canvas or board pane or 140lb watercolor paper
  • Your choice of paint – Oil, acrylic or watercolor. Only bring odorless solvent for oils (Gamsol)
  • Basic colors required: warm and cool red, warm and cool blue, warm and cool yellow, white and black. (Other colors are fine if you want to bring them.)
  • Brushes: A basic set of flats or filberts to include: #2, #4, #6, #8, #10. Bring any other brushes that you like
  • Palette can be your choice, Marilyn prefers the Masterson palettes
  • Sketching paper of sketch book for thumbnail sketches
  • Reference photo of a subject you would like to paint
  • Drawing pencils and eraser
  • Gloves and apron
  • Paper Towels

Landscape Painting Classes – Big Bear Lake FAQs

The event welcomes painters of all skill levels. Some previous painting experience or art classes may be helpful, but anyone interested in learning landscape painting techniques is encouraged to participate.

Participants should bring their own painting materials, including a canvas or watercolor paper, paints, brushes, easel, pencils, and other basic supplies needed for their preferred painting style.

Landscape Painting Classes take place at Miller Park, located at 1178 Chickasaw, Fawnskin, California 92333. Parking is available at the park.
