The Spartan Race has come back to Big Bear and they will be hosting a Weekend event at Snow Summit throughout the weekend of May 17 – 18, 2025. The 2025 Big Bear Spartan Trifecta Weekend! This event boasts 3 different races for individuals aged 14 & up as well as kids races of varying lengths for those aged 4-14.
Spartan races began in 2010 when founder Joe De Sena came up with the idea of creating an endurance race for a wide audience of competitors that would test their endurance in and out of the box way.
The Spartan culture encourages everyone to challenge themselves physically and mentally in a way that allows you to enjoy the experience while leaving you with a feeling of accomplishment that you have likely never experienced before. The Spartan Sprint is ideal for those that have recently committed to an active lifestyle as well as those that are just looking for a bit more of a challenge. The Spartan Sprint is the Spartan race favorite among competitors due to the shorter length yet well-rounded course style that will leave feeling challenged and accomplished at the end of the event.
During the Spartan Trifecta Weekend, guests that are not competing may enjoy Snow Summit's Scenic Sky Chair rides and Basecamp Activities. Spectator tickets are required.
Big Bear absolutely loves hosting Spartan and we have a few Destination Big Bear employees that enjoy competing in the races as well. If you aren’t familiar with Big Bear Lake, Snow Summit is usually open most of the year as it is an extremely popular ski resort, but it is also highly regarded as a downhill mountain bike park in the spring and summer months. You can be sure that they have perfected their ability to create safe and fun obstacles for all Spartan competitors. The resort’s highest altitude is approximately 8,200 ft and there are certain races where you will make your way up to that point before making your way back down to the finish line.
Spartan Race at Big Bear is more than just a competition—it’s an experience for the entire family. From kids as young as 4 participating in the Spartan Kids Foundation races to adults tackling mud, army crawls, and obstacle challenges, there’s something for everyone. Racers are timed, supported by a high-energy crowd, and encouraged to push personal limits while focusing on health and wellness. Groups, friends, and families often join together to share the adventure, making it both a fitness goal and a fun community event. Happening in Big Bear from May 19–21, the Spartan Race is the perfect mix of outdoor excitement and physical challenge. After conquering the course, unwind in comfort with a Destination Big Bear cabin rental—ideal for recovery and relaxation.
