Smoke noticed at Destination Big Bear<\/a> office shortly after incident reported.<\/p><\/div>\n

Forest Fire reported at 12:25 p.m. on 8\/23\/15<\/strong><\/p>\n

A fire was reported around 12:25 p.m. today, shortly before staff noticed smoke on the mountain behind the Destination Big Bear office.\u00a0 It is yet to be determined the cause of the fire and firefighters and safety personnel were immediately on the scene.\u00a0 Voluntary and mandatory evacuations close to the fire were issued to ensure both the safety of residents and to allow unobstructed access to the fire area.<\/p>\n

Firefighters are challenged by the steep, rugged terrain and rolling debris.\u00a0 Heavy air support has been used including 4 helicopters, an air attack plane and 6 water tenders.\u00a0 Countless drops of fire retardant and water has been dropped on the area to squelch the flames and keep the fire from spreading.<\/p>\n

UPDATE: 8\/24\/15 – The fire has been 50% contained.\u00a0 Mandatory evacuations are in effect for all areas south of Pennsylvania Avenue between Knickerbocker Road and Jeffries Road, all areas south of Oak Street between Jeffries Road and Eureka Drive<\/a>, and all areas south of McWhinney Lane between Eureka Drive and Thrush Drive.
